One of the most impressive presentations at CES 2019 was Samsung’s mind-boggling, eye-popping, and straight-up monstrous 4K MicroLED display, known as The Wall. But the magic of the Samsung’ The Wall is broken with Sony’s 17 Feet MicroLED. It’s really massive. Well the 8K display technology seems to be bit old as Sony’s has new MicroLED with 16K display.
At 16 times the pixel count of 4K TVs and 64 times greater than 1080p, onlookers will be able to walk up to the massive display without seeing just a wall of LEDs.
Sony’s 17 Feet MicroLED
Sony’s 17 Feet MicroLED has 16K resolution and standing 17 feet tall by 63 feet wide. This is, theoretically, the screen to end all screens, the display of the moment, and the craziest thing reported. It is announced by Sony at this year’s National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) trade show in Las Vegas, the display is set to debut in Japan, not for screening movies.
If you talk about the number, the 16K offers 16 times as many pixels as a 4K display, or 15360×8640 pixel density. While Samsung’s new 8K TVs are actually making their way to market this year. On the other hand, the 4K as the standard technology in most homes let alone 8K or 16K, mainly due to the fact that the content is still catching up with the technology.
With the limited details, Sony does not announced the exact resolution of the display, just revealed that it has around 16,000 horizontal pixels. So it is assumed that Sony is coming with something that has a non-standard resolution and a non-standard aspect ratio
The 63-foot display is built using MicroLED technology carrying Sony’s Crystal LED marketing speak. It is being installed for Japanese cosmetics group Shiseido located in Tokyo. The 16K monstrosity will span the first and second floors of the building.
